We are delighted to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Georgina McMaster.

Georgina’s paintings are the result of months of close observation, sketching and photography, with each work developing slowly through a process of refinement and considered detail. Her intricate brushwork reveals a deep understanding of her subjects, from the character and presence of the animals she depicts to the delicate structure of flowers and plants included in her compositions. For Georgina, it is often the smallest details that take the longest, while knowing what to leave out is just as important as what she puts in.

This new collection explores the beauty and character of the natural world through gatherings of wildlife, with paintings brought together around collective nouns,  a Parliament of Owls, a Kaleidoscope of Butterflies, a Swarm of Bees, a Fold of Highland Cattle and a Charm of Garden Birds. Solitary and less easily grouped subjects find their place within a wider Menagerie of Beasts. Displayed in considered groupings, the works explore relationships of scale and form, as well as the different textures of feather, fur and foliage, allowing the individual character of each animal to remain central while creating a stronger sense of connection between the paintings.

With Georgina exhibiting only once a year, this is a rare opportunity to see a significant new collection of her work together.
